Product Details

  • The Sopwith Snipe F1 was a British single-seat biplane fighter from World War I. Designed by Herbert Smith of the Sopwith Aviation Company, it replaced the renowned Sopwith Camel in 1918. The Snipe stood out for its excellent climb performance and maneuverability, which made it a strong rival against German fighters.
  • The Bentley BR.2 rotary engine powered the Sopwith Snipe, producing 230 horsepower. It reached speeds of 121 mph and performed well at altitudes up to 10,000 feet. The aircraft featured a strong and stable design, making it ideal for high-altitude combat. Its two forward-firing Vickers machine guns provided effective firepower in aerial battles.
  • The Sopwith Snipe F1 became the Royal Air Force’s standard fighter after the war. It remained in service until 1926, leaving a lasting legacy in aviation history. Today, restored models often appear at museums and air shows. These displays highlight the Snipe’s innovative design and historical importance.
