- The Convair 440 Metropolitan was modified version of the Convair 340 to further increase the speed while reducing the noise level in the cabin. Seating up to 52 passengers the prototype first flew on October 6th, 1955. Since then around 162 have been built up until 1958, today a few are operated by the USAF and US Navy.
