Product Details

  • The de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito, often called the “Wooden Wonder”, is a British twin-engine, multirole combat aircraft developed by de Havilland Aircraft Company during World War II. Its unique construction, primarily using wood, made it lightweight and allowed for exceptional speed and agility. First flown on November 25, 1940, the Mosquito quickly became one of the fastest operational aircraft. It achieved a maximum speed of 415 mph (668 km/h). The versatility of the Mosquito enabled it to serve in various roles, including as a light bomber, fighter-bomber, night fighter, maritime strike aircraft, and photo-reconnaissance aircraft. It was powered by two Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, each producing 1,690 hp. The Mosquito had an impressive range of 1,955 miles (3,150 km). Notable missions included Operation Jericho, which targeted Amiens Prison in 1944. This showcased its precision and effectiveness. The Mosquito’s service ceiling reached 42,000 feet (12,800 meters). Despite its wooden construction, the Mosquito proved durable and reliable, remaining in service until the 1950s. Its innovative design and multirole functionality have secured its place in aviation history, making the de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito a legendary aircraft.
