Douglas DC-6 Aerial Transit
Product Details

  • The Douglas DC-6, a piston-engine airliner developed by the renowned Douglas Aircraft Company shortly after World War II, quickly found success in the commercial aviation market due to its versatility and reliability. Initially designed as a military transport aircraft, the DC-6 was primarily used for medium to long-haul flights. Airlines favored it for its reliability and range. Additionally, it was used extensively for cargo transport and military operations.

Many airlines worldwide operated the Douglas DC-6, including well-known carriers like Pan American World Airways, American Airlines, and Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS). The aircraft played a significant role in the post-war expansion of commercial aviation. It helped set the stage for the jet age that followed.

Aerial Transit operated the Douglas DC-6 for cargo flights. One notable incident involved a Douglas DC-6B(F) registered as N84BL. This aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Guatemala City in 1990, resulting in the loss of 27 lives. It carried clothes and vegetables from San Salvador to Miami, highlighting the DC-6’s significant role in cargo operations.
