Product Details

  • The Douglas DC-8-62, a significant variant in the distinguished DC-8 aircraft family, emerged in the 1960s. Produced by the renowned Douglas Aircraft Company, it was part of the innovative “Super Sixty” series. This series featured elongated fuselages and enhanced engines compared to earlier models.

The DC-8-62, with a length of 157 feet 5 inches and a wingspan of 148 feet 5 inches, typically accommodated around 189 passengers in a two-class configuration. As a result, it became a favorite among airlines for medium to long-haul flights.

Furthermore, the DC-8-62 boasted a commendable range of approximately 5,200 nautical miles when carrying the maximum payload, thanks to its four powerful Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbofan engines. Thus, this aircraft played a pivotal role in the development of commercial aviation, earning its place in aviation history.

Moreover, Finnair named the Douglas DC-8-62 registered as OH-LFZ “Jean Sibelius.” Delivered to Finnair in 1968 and later transferred to Kar-Air, it was eventually scrapped in 2005. This aircraft had a seating capacity of 152 passengers and was powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D-3 turbofan engines.
