Product Details

  • The Fokker 50 is a renowned turboprop-powered regional airliner developed by the Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker. This aircraft improves upon the successful Fokker F27 Friendship, featuring Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127B turboprop engines that provide enhanced performance and efficiency. Additionally, the Fokker 50 first took to the skies in December 1985 and entered revenue service in 1987. Notably, it offers a 30% reduction in fuel consumption compared to its predecessor. Skywest Airlines, an Australian regional airline, extensively operated the Fokker 50. In 1994, Skywest acquired these aircraft from Ansett Airlines. As a result, they served the Western Australia region for over two decades. Furthermore, passengers and airlines praised the Fokker 50s for their reliability, efficiency, and ability to operate on short regional routes, making them a preferred choice. Moreover, in 2013, Virgin Australia acquired Skywest Airlines and subsequently rebranded it as Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA). Despite the rebranding, VARA continued operating the Fokker 50s until their retirement in 2016. Ultimately, the final revenue flight of the Fokker 50 marked a special event, featuring a charter flight and a water cannon salute at Perth Airport. Consequently, the Fokker 50’s legacy remains significant in the history of regional aviation. It consistently contributes to improving regional connectivity and operational efficiency. Therefore, regional aviation celebrates the Fokker 50 for its contributions.
