Product Details

  • The Sopwith Snipe F1 was a British single-seat biplane fighter from World War I. Designed by Herbert Smith of the Sopwith Aviation Company, it entered service in 1918 as the successor to the Sopwith Camel. Although not the fastest, the Snipe excelled in climb performance and maneuverability. These qualities made it a strong contender against German fighters.
  • Powered by the Bentley BR.2 rotary engine, the Snipe produced 230 horsepower. It could reach speeds of 121 mph at an altitude of 10,000 feet. Its robust design ensured stable flight, while its two Vickers machine guns added effective firepower. Pilots also appreciated its excellent performance in high-altitude combat.
  • The Sopwith Snipe F1 became the Royal Air Force’s standard fighter after the war. It remained in service until 1926, securing its place in aviation history. Today, aviation enthusiasts admire its historical significance and innovative design. Restored models are showcased at airshows and museums, keeping its legacy alive.
